Can you tell us some of the reasons why you decided to apply for an electrical apprenticeship? - Answer- I applied for this apprenticeship because I want to learn new skills from experienced and like-minded professionals who also enjoy working with electricity. 2. What are some of the experiences you have had in the past that increased your interest in becoming an electrical worker? - Answer- In high school I took a basic electronics class that was very hands on. I enjoyed this class very much because I am a practical learner. I also shipped off to Air Force basic military training with a guaranteed electronics job based on my ASVAB score in electronics 3. What knowledge do you have about what an electrical worker does on the job? - Answer- The work of electricians is to connect, assess, and repair systems that use electronics in both residences and commercial structures. 4. Describe a time when you were missing something you needed to finish a project or job. - Answer- When I was replacing the spark plugs of my vehicle, I was missing a spark plug gap tool and a spark plug socket. I eventually bought these tools from an auto parts store and completed the job. 5. Tell us about a time when you had some work to do, but you were not exactly sure how to do it. - Answer- Last year, the drive light on my vehicle was flashing and I wasn't sure why. I plugged in an OBDII code reader and researched the troubleshoot code as a failing transmission fluid pressure sensor. I watched youtube videos and looked at transmission diagrams and diagnosed the part that needed to be replaced. I installed the new part and my vehicle drive light stopped flashing. 6. Describe a time when you had an idea about a different way to make, build, or repair something. - Answer- A couple years ago, my previous vehicle was not turning when rotating the steering wheel. My friend said that I should take it to a repair shop and I said that I would like to research it more and try and repair myself even though it was out of purview. I diagnosed it as a broken tie rod and successfully replaced it in a parking lot. 7. Describe how you went about planning a project that you completed from start to finish. - Answer- I did a brake job on my vehicle last year and I planned the project by researching the repair procedures, the cost of materials from various sources, and tools needed. Tell us about a time when you were proud of the way you organized a job. - Answer- At a previous job, I was a front desk agent at a boutique hotel in Carmel, CA. For a client I organized a honeymoon getaway by asking questions, listening to his requests and assisting in selecting a room and coordinating floral and dining arrangements. During check out, I inquired about their stay and they told me that everything was perfect. It was a very fulfilling moment for me. 9. Describe a time when you were working on an important deadline, but something of higher priority came up and prevented you from making the deadline. - Answer- I was writing a paper for school and I missed the deadline on it because I was working a shift in a restaurant. I worked hard to manage my time, but I was taking approximately 13 credits and working full time in order to pay for school. I submitted the paper late and received a 15% penalty putting my grade at a B-. 10. Tell us about a time you didn't understand the instructions you were given for a task - - Answer- Once I was tasked with changing the headlights on my vehicle and I had to remove the bumper in order to complete the task. I checked out a repair manual from the library and read the procedure on how to remove the bumper and I eventually completed the job successfully. 11. Tell us about a time you had to choose between group or individual work - Answer- When I was in college Algebra I, I had to choose to work individually or in a group. We were frequently given the option to work on homework in class and I chose to work in a group. I found that it was much easier to work together in order accomplish the task. 12. Tell us about a time at work, or in school, when someone really got on your nerves. - Answer- I normally work a 3pm to 11pm shift at a hotel and there was this coworker of mine who would usually come in after me 10 minutes late. I politely addressed the conflict and told the colleague how I felt and ever since that interaction, he showed up on time. 13. Tell us about a time when someone criticized something you made, or something you did. - Answer- One time a manager at work criticized a procedure at work and I looked up to him as a mentor and was eager to hear about how I can improve my performance. 14. Describe a time when a co-worker, or friend, wanted to do something that you did not agree with. - Answer- At a front desk job, a coworker told me that we could sit in the back and watch the cameras instead of actually being at the front desk. I explained to them that I disagreed with this because it negatively affected the presentation of guest relations and the front desk. 15. Tell us about a time when you had to work with three or more people to get something done. - Answer- At my current job, I work with multiple housekeeping staff to update room conditions in order to check in hotel guests by guaranteed 3:00 check in time. 16. Describe a team activity that you like to participate in. - Answer- I really enjoy playing basketball because it is a team activity that practices dexterity, accuracy, and quick decision making. 17. Tell us about the most challenging project you've ever done completely on your own. - Answer- The most challenging project was when I had a failing windshield wiper control module and I spent hours working on. I tested the continuity on all wires and eventually diagnosed it as a failing ground wire. It was frustrating but I completed the job successfully.
