Purpose
•The purpose of this assignments is to assist students in developing an
understanding of the importance of Evidence-Based Practice and how the
Microsystem may influences its implementation
•Objectives
•Perform a microsystem assessment using the 5 P's - Purpose, Patients,
Professionals, Processes and Patterns.
•Synthesize current scientific literature relevant to the issue identified
including levels of evidence and gaps in the research.
•Describe the process of implementing and evaluating a current or
proposed quality initiative
•Discuss how the microsystem supports or inhibits quality-focused
initiatives.
•Utilizing the Clinical Nurse Leader essentials/roles/competencies, discuss
recommendations to improve outcomes in the microsystem.
•Assignment
•Students will be assigned a microsystem to analyze.
•By Monday, November 9, 2020, by 11:59PM, students will sign up as a group
for a presentation day and time. (Located under 'Assignments' in the 501 BB
shell).
•Select an initiative currently being implemented on the unit (e.g. reducing
, falls, improving pain scores, etc.).
•Assess the microsystem and evaluate the degree to which the microsystem
is or is not facilitating or hindering the implementation of an evidence-
based project. Information about the microsystem may be gathered
through informal interviews or conversations with unit leadership along
with reviewing the Rush Intranet.
•Review and synthesize current (within the last 5 years)
local/regional/national and global literature relevant to the selected
initiative. The literature review should include various levels of evidence
and identify gaps in research. The library offers assistance with Literature
Reviews and is highly recommended if searching the scientific
literature/data bases is new to you.
•Review the CNL White Paper (posted with the assignment) and identify
Roles/Competencies that are particularly applicable to this project - be
specific and cite.
