Question Paper & Mark Scheme
Exam Resource Summary
This June 2025 Edexcel A Level Chinese (Spoken Mandarin/Spoken Cantonese) 9CN0/02
document merges the official question paper and mark scheme for Paper 2: Written
Response to Works and Translation. It assesses students’ ability to translate accurately
from English into Chinese and to write analytical responses in Chinese to one or more
prescribed literary texts and a film. The paper evaluates linguistic precision, cultural insight,
and the capacity to construct coherent and well-supported essays. The merged format
provides clear guidance on examiner expectations, mark allocation, and effective essay-
writing strategies. An essential resource for thorough preparation for the 2025 Edexcel A
Level Chinese examination.

In the past forty years, the Chinese economy has developed rapidly. This tremendous
change has increased people’s incomes and created many career opportunities. However,
while people celebrate this as a national success, it has also brought many challenges,
particularly damage to the environment.
Studies indicate that different forms of pollution will directly, or indirectly, affect children’s
health. Everyone hopes that our next generation can live under blue skies, have fresh air
to breathe and clean water to drink.
