● The primary function of assessment in sport psychology consultation is to obtain information from
athletes about themselves.
● This means that athletes can respond in ways they perceive as expected of them or to obtain the
consultant’s approval,a concept called“social desirability”.
● Tests that are intended to measure a client’s personality traits will differ from others that measure
the person's thought processes,disposition or behavioral tendencies.
● This is why it is important to establish trust and rapport with athletes before they complete self-
reporting tests
