ASSIGNMENT 4 2025
DUE 4 OCTOBER 2025
Question 1 [7 Marks]
With reference to the Circular Flow Model and sources of economic growth,
discuss two interventions that would most effectively stimulate economic growth
in a rural town like Alice in the Eastern Cape.
According to the Circular Flow Model, economic growth can be stimulated by injections
such as government spending and investment. First, infrastructure development (e.g.,
upgrading roads and reliable electricity in Alice) would lower production costs for firms,
attract investment, and expand employment opportunities. This raises household
incomes, which in turn increases spending in local markets. Second, promoting small-
scale agriculture and agro-processing for export would strengthen the foreign sector by
bringing in income from outside the town. These interventions enhance the flow of
production, income, and spending, creating a multiplier effect that sustains economic
growth in the rural economy.
