Milestone Two - Course Syllabus



Course Description



This course is designed for students to learn the best practices for structuring and

writing expository essays. Using the theme of “Exploring the Impact of Social/Cultural

Constructs on Individuals and Communities,” students will learn to research ideas,

evaluate evidence, express thoughts, and present coherent arguments in a well-structured

expository essay. Students will engage in group brainstorming sessions to generate a list

of topics and conduct research to examine the social impact of their selected construct.

They develop critical thinking skills by analyzing the effects of binary social constructs

such as gender, race, class, and sexuality on society. Students will formulate ideas to add to

the current social conversation. Strategies to


assist students with completing their essays will include videos, lectures, group

discussions, peer reviews, and roleplaying. By the end of the course, students will have the

skills and confidence


to write effective expository essays across various subjects.




Course Outcomes



 Identify the components of effective expository essays
