Research Methodology D2
Daniel Trew
In this assignment I will be evaluating how my research project could have
been improved. I will be discussing what I could have done differently to
improve the project I carried out. I will be referring to both my primary
and secondary research.
My research project was based around the disorder Attention Deficit
Hyperactive Disorder, more wildly known as ADHD. I decided on this topic
as during one of my placements in a primary school there was a child who
had ADHD. I knew what the basics of it was but I did not really know that
much of it into detail such as the specific details of the effects on
everyday life. The child would get into trouble during class time as he
would not concentrate on what was being done and his behaviour was
hard to control. Due to this I decided to try and research it a bit further to
see more in-depth of this disorder and try to get a better understanding of
it. After researching I decided I would get some opinions on the disorder
as now I had a better understanding of the basics of it. I wanted to get a
wider scope on the publics knowledge and understandings of it. This is
what began my research project.
In the month of December 2019 I began compiling the information I
wanted to gain from this project in order to create my aims and
hypothesis. I believe I could have spent a longer time on creating my
hypothesis. It is “the general public are aware of what ADHS is but they do
not fully understand the aspects of it”. I believe that this is a bit vague
and individuals could have their own meaning towards it. It would have
been a better idea to word it differently such as the general public have a
brief understanding and knowledge of the disorder but they are unaware
of the disorders extensivity. I believe that this hypothesis has a clearer
and finer meaning to it. It is easier to interpret rather than having multiple
meanings to it. I believe my aim is similar. If I had spent more time with
what I really wanted to get out of this research project and thought of a
couple of aims rather than one maybe the results and the reasoning for
the project would have been more extensive.
In January 2020 I began to compile a report, rationale and planning for my
aim, hypothesis, research and other sources I planned in using during the
project. Despite spending good time on my report and rationale It would
have been useful to create a wider vast of secondary sources I planned on
using. This would have helped with my research project. I would have
been able to gain more knowledge on my chosen disorder which may
have helped me gain some information that other sources did not have. It
would have also helped with my primary research.
In February 2020 I was using my secondary sources of research to gather
more knowledge and information to help my understanding. One piece of
secondary research I found that was helpful to my project was “Public
knowledge, Beliefs and Treatment Preferences Concerning Attention-
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder” compiled my Jane D. McLeod. I believe
