Research Methodology M3
Daniel Trew
In this assignment I will be assessing strengths and limitations of my
research project in meeting aims or the hypothesis. I will be assessing my
project in terms of if the data I have generated has allowed me to meet
the aims of my research.
My research project was focused on the disorder known as ADHD-
Attention deficit hyperactive Disorder. I decided on this topic as during
one of my placements in a primary school there was a child who had
ADHD. I knew what the basics of it was but I did not really know that much
of it into detail. I wanted to get a wider scope on the publics knowledge
and understandings of it. I have decided to use questionnaires as these
are more economical. In addition to this, questionnaires are also more
practical and efficient as they are easy to understand and answer and are
less time consuming.
The aim of my research was to learn the general public’s opinions
towards the disorder ADHD. I am choosing this disorder as I have carried
out work on it in other modules. In order to carry out this piece of research
I would need to collect data from questionnaires that I will issue around
my fellow students at Northern regional college. I will also issue
questionnaires in my work at Glenabbey Manor. I will reach all ages as I
want to be able to reflect the general public and discover what they
believe rather than what a small minority. My hypothesis for this
research is that the general public are aware of what ADHS is but they do
not fully understand the aspects of it.
My research started off with a basic question. It was asking the individuals
if they were aware of what ADHD actually is and if they knew what the
acronym stood for. This question was a strength for my project. It
allowed me to meet the aims for my project as it helped me to learn the
general publics understanding. It was also a strength as just more than
half answered the question without knowing what it stands for meaning
the hypothesis has been proven that the general public have a small
understanding what ADHD is but do not have a good knowledge on the
disorder. The next question was if they understood any of the symptoms
that an individual with ADHD would have. This questions were a strength
to my project as it allowed me to learn the general public’s opinions
towards the disorder ADHD. It also turned out to be a strength as 6 out of
20 were able to give the 3 symptoms that I asked for so this meant If less
than half of the participants were able to give 3 symptoms then the
hypothesis has been proven that the general public only have a small
understanding.
My questionnaire continued on asking the participant if they were aware
of any way that an individual with ADHD may be affected in their daily life
by the disorder. This question resulted in being a strength to the project
as I was able to learn how 20 individuals believed that an individual’s life
would be affected and this was my aim to get an understanding on how
