Section A: Motivation and Expectations
I selected LIN2601 because I have a strong interest in understanding how human
beings acquire and develop language skills. Language is a central aspect of
communication, identity, and culture, and I believe that by studying this module, I will
gain valuable insight into the processes behind language learning and usage. This
knowledge will not only be useful for academic purposes but will also benefit me in my
interactions with people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. I am also
curious to explore the similarities and differences between first and second language
acquisition, as well as how factors such as age, environment, and cognitive
development influence these processes.
My expectations for this module are to develop a solid theoretical understanding of
language acquisition, supported by practical examples and real-life applications. I hope
to learn about the biological, social, and psychological aspects of language
development and how these theories can be applied in education, multilingual societies,
and communication-related careers. By the end of the semester, I expect to have
improved my critical thinking about language learning and to be able to evaluate
different approaches to language teaching and policymaking in multilingual contexts.
