, 2001–2005: Windows XP
Windows XP was first released in 2001 and
was marketed as an easy-to-use Operating
System for your home computer. Microsoft
had realised the growing number of online
computer viruses that were possible to
receive, thus this was aided by adding an
online-security update system.
This Operating System was designed to be
bright and colourful at first glance, making
it appeal to younger audiences. The layout
of the Start menu has also been changed to
allow for easier access to your files.
, Windows XP Home Edition gives users extra programs not available to other Operating
Systems that are meant to enhance the user’s experience. These programs include
the Network Setup Wizard, Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker.
The 64-bit version of XP is the first Microsoft operating system designed for working
with programs that use a lot of memory such as special effects, 3D Animations and
various scientific/engineering programs.
Windows XP Professional version claims to improve reliability, security and
performance. Along with these it includes features for remote desktop support, the
ability to encrypt files, having access to advanced networking features and being able
to restore your system to a previous backup.
