IMPORTANCE OF RECEPTORS ESSAY:
A01= content
A02= importance
1. Pacinian corpuscle is a pressure
receptor made up of layers of lamellae
wrapped around a sensory neurone. When
pressure is applied, layers of lamellae deform
pulling apart stretch-mediated sodium
channels causing them to open. Sodium ions
diffuse into the axon of the sensory neurone
depolarising the membrane which causes an
action potential to be generated. This allows
organisms to respond to changes in the
environment for example to move away from
pressure to prevent damage to the body.
