D773: Task 1 Ethical Dilemma in Client Representation at WGU

D773: Task 1

Western Governor

University

A1. The ethical dilemma in this scenario is whether or not to
represent the client despite their past offensive behavior.

If I chose to represent him, from my perspective, it would help the
client’s character grow positively. In addition, the client will become
more empathetic and take genuine accountability for his past actions.
On the other hand, if I choose to represent the client, it will appear as
if I am accepting his behavior and racist remarks, even though I am
not in agreement with his past comments. Also, it could damage my
firm's reputation and business.

If I choose not to represent the client, I would be taking away an
opportunity for a person to grow, but I will hold up my values and
views about discrimination.

A2. Choosing to represent the customer has advantages and
disadvantages. Let's discuss the advantages of client
representation. The firm's strength is in our ability to empathize
with those who have made mistakes in the past and demonstrate our
desire to recognize the positive in everyone. In addition, we'll help
the client rebuild their reputation and take accountability for their
racist remarks. Helping the client understand why many people were
affected by his comments will help him be empathetic, show
remorse, and make better decisions in the future. Also, as a PR
manager, I would strongly encourage the client to make a sincere
public apology to everyone who was affected by his racist
comments. Taking accountability and wanting to change to become
a better person takes a lot of courage. The firm will display empathy,
and our firm believes in seeing the good in people regardless of their
status.

However, if I decide not to represent the client, I will send a message
that my firm is highly against any racist, hateful, and harmful
behavior. In addition, the firm will demonstrate to present clients,
future clients, and people using social media that we hold values
against racist behavior very high in our priorities as a PR firm. In
contrast, choosing not to represent the client, the firm and I will be
revoking an opportunity for the client to grow and show how
regretful he is for his actions when he was younger, and how many
people he affected. Nevertheless, the firm will miss a chance to
