1.1 Who should be responsible for providing curriculum leadership within the school
context? What are the specific responsibilities and key actions that should be

spearheaded by the principal, heads of departments (HODs), and senior teachers who
possess both subject expertise and leadership skills. However, subject-specific
curriculum leadership should predominantly lie with the HODs and subject coordinators
who understand the intricacies of the subject matter and are familiar with the curriculum
requirements.
Effective curriculum leaders must undertake specific responsibilities and actions to
ensure the successful implementation of the curriculum. Firstly, they need to interpret
national and provincial curriculum policies and guide teachers in translating these into
practical classroom activities. This includes aligning teaching strategies, assessment
methods, and learning resources with curriculum goals. Secondly, they must lead the
