EUROPEAN CINEMA
- German Expressionism
- More focus on setting “Mise en
cene”
- Caligari Film
- Expressing distrust in corrupt power
- Portrays authority and corruption through the setting up of the scene where a
character is placed at a higher position than other. Motif = the triangle
- Triangle is a symbol of power but also of a knife
- About the corruption of power and how powerful people use weak people to
commit crimes
- Occurred before Nazi Germany where people signed up for it and later led to
the killing of many innocent people.
- French Impressionism & Surrealism
- Expressing emotions of characters using surroundings
- More contact with deeper soul / understanding the mind and individual
- Thus more emphasis on cinematography and editing
