NURS 6521 Week 1 Discussion
Week 1 Discussion Although I have ambitions to be a change agent, I am not involved in any social change. However, this does not rule out my aspirations to help the minority and less privileged groups and communities. Nurses are the center for change within public health, and individual contribution plays a significant role in initiating change that affects millions of people. According to the Walden University (n.d.), people should strive to bring change regardless of whether they are promoting the change singlehandedly since hundreds and thousands of people have the same ambitions since small contributions can help change the world. My focus is to help the minority communities overcome vision problems and address situations that might lead to vision problems within these communities. I am not involved in any Community Services at the moment. However, I am involved in the National Institutes of Health, in the National Eye Institute, where we focus on finding cures for eye diseases. Besides, I am also involved in promoting a healthy lifestyle associated with fewer health issues that likely cause vision complications and permanent vision loss. This program aims to reduce incidences and prevalence of vision problems and vision loss associated with a person’s lifestyle. The health promotion program will impact many people and reduces cases of permanent vision loss caused by unhealthy lifestyles. Currently, I am enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Public Health focusing on community health. However, this is a temporary program since I am still in contention for the doctoral program I will undertake. Nevertheless, I will decide on the program that will help me drive the social change goal and address issues of concern within community health. As a scholarpractitioner, I am interested in helping low-income individuals and minority communities attain improved health outcomes. My focus is to change how health promotion is communicated and presented among these groups. According to Scott et al., (2018) health promotion within low income and minority communities has potential to improve access to care, reduce health inequalities, and improve health efficiency. Through information and health promotion, the wellbeing of these communities can be improved, which will impact the overall nature of public health. References Scott, K., Beckham, S.
