This essay explores the scientific, ethical, and public health dimensions of vaccination use in humans and animals. It discusses how vaccines function by stimulating the immune system, the historical development of vaccination (including Edward Jenner’s work on smallpox), and various types such as live-attenuated, subunit, and toxoid vaccines. The paper also addresses vaccine hesitancy, common misconceptions about side effects, religious and moral objections, and public health implications. Supported by research from sources like the CDC, NIH, and medical journals, this paper presents a balanced analysis of the benefits and controversies surrounding immunization in global and travel-related contexts.

SCI120 – Use of Vaccinations Study Project | Penn Foster | Spring–

July 2025 Exam Submission | Biology & Public Health Essay

, Vaccinations are an important part of maintaining healthy lifestyles around the world. It is

important to be vaccinated, especially when international trips are made to countries that have

high rate of infectious illnesss. The chances of developing an illness, which could be life

threatening, are very high without the proper vaccinations. Also, once the illness is contracted,

one can pass it on to others who are not vaccinated. Prior to the discovery of vaccinations, some

illnesss were so deadly and highly contagious that they could destroy entire populations of

people. Some immunizations, like the flu immunization, and rabies are commonly used. There

are immunizations for both people and animals. There are pros and cons for the use of each

immunization used, and what they are they? Some of the pros and cons are that they can prevent

certain illnesss, but they can cause nasty side effects or be ineffective in some people.

There are some immunizations that we’ve been using for over 200 years. In 1796, a

immunization for smallpox was created by Edward Jenner. (The History of smallpox, 2015)

Through his study, he came across a theory that if a person got cowpox first, that they couldn’t

get smallpox.

Smallpox is known to be highly contagious, and infectious.

There are many bacteria, parasites, and pathogenes that can cause illnesses. There are

several immunizations that are associated with illnesses and illnesss. In order for immunization

to be effective, it must produce an resistant response to a specific pathogen (pathogen, bacteria,

etc.). All immunizations work by tricking the body into mounting an resistant response to a

perceived illness. The body actually has not been infected by the organism, but thinks it has.

Immunizations are produced in a variety of wars. Some immunizations use heat killed bacteria.

The body recognised the bacteria and responds, but since the bacteria is heat killed, it cannot

cause the illness. Immunizations have a living pathogens in them, but can’t cause harm. Subunits

immunizations only have part of microbes rather
