QUESTION 1
1.1 Apply the concept of reflection-in-action to a situation where learners are
disengaged during a lesson.
Reflection-in-action means a teacher thinks and makes changes while teaching,
not after the lesson. For example, if learners are bored or not listening during a
lesson, the teacher can quickly change their method. Instead of just talking, the
teacher might ask questions, use a short game, or show a picture to get learners
interested again. Schön (2022, p. 45) explains that reflection-in-action helps
teachers solve problems immediately during teaching. This makes the lesson
better for learners. Reflection-in-action is important because it keeps learners
focused and helps the teacher improve the lesson on the spot (Ngobeni, 2023, p.
22).

1.2 Using Bronfenbrenner’s theory, describe how one system (e.g., microsystem
or macrosystem) might impact learner performance in the classroom.
Bronfenbrenner’s theory explains how different systems around a child affect
their learning. One important system is the microsystem, which includes the
, people the child interacts with daily, like family, teachers, and friends. If a learner
has supportive parents and a caring teacher, they are more likely to do well in
class. But if there are problems at home, like fighting or neglect, it can make the
learner sad or stressed, which affects their schoolwork. According to Donald et al.
(2021, p. 35), the microsystem has a direct impact on how a child behaves and
performs in the classroom.

1.3 Mention and describe any two ethical responsibilities of a teacher towards
learners according to the SACE Code of Ethics.
According to the SACE Code of Ethics, teachers have important responsibilities
towards learners. First, teachers must respect the dignity of all learners. This
means treating every learner fairly, no matter their race, gender, or background.
Learners should feel safe and valued in class (SACE, 2023, p. 8). Second, teachers
must protect learners from harm. Teachers must make sure learners are safe
from bullying, abuse, or unfair treatment at school. They should report any
danger or abuse immediately (SACE, 2023, p. 9). These responsibilities help
create a positive, safe space where all learners can grow and succeed.
