Task 4: Teaching Social – Emotional Skills
A. Self Awareness
Teaching self-awareness skills impacts students' growth and development by helping students
understand their thoughts and emotions. Self-awareness can help students self-regulate by
allowing them to become aware of their behaviors and actions and become attuned to their
feelings and the needs of others. Self-awareness is a critical skill for students to learn because it
helps them recognize their strengths and challenges and view difficult situations positively.
Teaching this skill can also help students accept personal mistakes and see the mistake as a way
of growing and learning, which can help them develop a growth mindset (Kamath, 2019).
Teaching self-awareness skills can help students build behavior that will help with strategic
thinking, be aware of their strengths and challenges, and be more empathetic to others. If
students build strong self-awareness skills, they can identify and understand what they are
successful at, which can help them gain confidence and emotional wellness.
Activity one:
Learning about feelings is one instructional activity that can help students with self-awareness
skills. Students will learn and identify different emotions and how emotions affect their
behaviors. Students will demonstrate emotions using body language, facial expressions, and
words. I will ask students how they can tell when someone is sad, angry, excited, or nervous.
Then, please discuss with the class ways to help us identify the different emotions, such as using
facial expressions, body language, and words to help figure out how someone feels. Students
will then work on a worksheet that helps identify emotions. The worksheet will have different
images of facial expressions, and the students will write down 2 two emotions that describe the
