Introduction
Gender-based violence (GBV) is among the most pervasive human rights violations
globally, particularly affecting women and girls. However, those with disabilities
experience compounded risks due to intersecting layers of discrimination (UNFPA Asia-
Pacific Regional Office [UNFPA APRO], 2023; Sightsavers, 2024). This essay critically
explores the promotion of an awareness campaign targeting GBV against persons with
disabilities. The selected article, Disability-Inclusive Gender-Based Violence Prevention
and Response, produced by Sightsavers in Uganda, offers a human-interest narrative
supplemented by evidence from international policy and legislation (Sightsavers, 2024).
It illustrates how inclusive awareness campaigns can empower survivors and shift
societal norms. The essay evaluates broader implications, examines applicable
frameworks, and proposes strategies for enhancing campaign effectiveness.
