The nervous system is the master control and communication center. It maintains
homeostasis within the body and allows to interpret, integrate, and react to surounding
environment and internal stimuli.
2. Why does the cerebral cortex contain so many folds?
To help increase surface area and to create more space for information processing.
3. What is a nerve impulse?
The way cells communicate from one to the other by sending an electirical signal
transmission.
4. What are Schwann cells and what do they form?
Schwann cells form the myelin sheath and form a variety of glia cells that keep the
peripheral nerve fibers alive.
5. What is an all-or-none response?
The all or none response states that strength of a response of a nerve cell or muscle
fiber is not dependent upon the strength of the stimulus. A nerve or muscle cell will fire
if the stimulus is above a certain threshold.
6. What two effects might neurotransmitters have?

inside of the cell becomes less negatively charged compared to the outside.
