Report on the current … issue facing Lilidays Centre and the recommendations
actions
This report is intended for the … (who the report is for) - and has been complied by
Daisy on 12th January 2020.

The purpose of this report is to … (write what is said in the case study)

Introduction
Lilidays Centre is a concert and entertainment venue, based in Shirevale.
The business is owned by Gordon Stewart, with Catherine Emile as managing director and
Alex James as the customer service manager. Catherine wants to change her job title to
Chief Executive Officer to have a stronger role in the business, and Alex will take over as the
managing director.
Lilidays has two halls: The Hive and The Burrow. Tour promoters can hire the halls to host
their events. However, the centre can refuse bookings from tour promoters if Lilidays feels
the show does not match their mission and values.
The business is well - loved by lots of its customers and has excellent customer satisfaction
levels.

Issues/Priorities
● To work with the tour promoters to bring in new shadows and different target
audiences
● To manage change in management style to maintain Lilidays culture and values
● Ensure HR planning of staff contracts does not lead to high levels of absenteeism
and their high levels of customer satisfaction decreasing
● To achieve a business goal of 5% net profit margin

Current … (whatever the issue is) faced by Lilidays Centre and the impact of
these

Analysis of the number of shows and total average capacity of each hall
The Hive

October- March are the busiest times – Panto – but they amount to shows and the
attendance has been steadily declining by 0.1% each year for the Hive. This could be
because it is the same type of shows each year, and the customers are getting bored of
them. OCT 2016 - MAR 2017, the amount of shows decreased by 27 shows and the
attendance dropped by 16%. In OCT - DEC 2016, the HIve had 520 seats filled on average
compared to the 416 average seats in JAN -MAR 2017. This was their busiest time in the
Hive throughout the 3 years. The only reason why the October - December quarter is
because of the pantomimes bringing in the families, but the attendance starts to decrease
from January, because this is the time when people are financially recovering after
Christmas, so they don’t have much disposable income to spend on going to the theater.

For the shows in the Hive, they have decreased 49% from October 2016 to September
2019. – This could be because Lilidays keep refusing booking if they don’t match their
values or mission statement. The attendance for the hive had decreased by 40% from
October 2016 – September 2019.

, The Burrow

There are 470 less seats in The Burrow compared to the 650 seats in The Hive.

In October 2016 - December 2017 the shows decreased by 14 shows from 50 down to 36
shows. The attendance dropped by 25% from 82% down to 57%. Like the Hive, October -
March is Lilidays most popular time. But shows and attendance are continuously decreasing
in the Burrow as well. The amount of shows from October 2016 to September 2019 have
been steadily declining, with a massive drop of 34 shows from the 50 in October - December
2016 and 16 in July - September 2019.

This is the same with the attendance, as the attendance has dropped by over 50% from
October 2106 to September 2019.

For both the Hive and The Burrow, the best quarter for the amount of shows and the
attendance was October - December 2016, and the worst quarter ws July - September 2019.
These figures suggest that without any action, these figures will get worse, meaning the
business will not reach their goal of a 5% net profit.

As April - September is one of the worst time periods for Lilidays, it suggests that people are
not wanting to go to the theater during the summer months, as they would like to go on
holiday, or spend their time outside. This means that they could work with travel agencies to
get people’s travel packages to include a show/event at Lilidays. Catherine could target this
audience, because Lilidays is based in Shirevale, which is near the Peak district and the city
of Nottingham.

Another thing Catherine could do is to introduce a membership scheme so that people who
subscribe get discounts on shows/events, and exclusive viewings. This will bring in more
money at a period of time - which could be every month, or one whole sum for the whole
year.

As Lilidays is near the city of Nottingham. This could open up opportunities for LIlidays, as
they could work with the university in Nottingham, to work with the students that are studying
performing arts and other related subjects.

Analysis of Figure 2 - Clearway Theatre average number of days lost per
worker due to sickness

Catherine friend – Tamjid Khan – has introduced zero hour contracts and experienced
absences and a fall in customer satisfaction.

In 2013-2014, the full-time/part time days lost went up by 0.1%, and then in 2015, the days
lost started to decrease by 0.1% each year. For the zero hour employees, the number of
days lost started at 5.2%, decreased by 0.4% in 2016, and then decreased by a further 0.1%
in 2017. The days lost was 1.8% higher for the zero hour contract then the full/part time
workers. This could be because the zero hour workers are not motivated to work, as they
don’t have contracted hours, or it could be because they have another job. This increase in
the number of days lost could be the reason why Clearway is experiencing a fall in customer
satisfaction, as Clearway might be short staff on the days the zero hours workers didn’t
come in.

Analysis of Figure 3 - Clearways total % of workforce contracted days lost due
to sickness

Full/part time – steady decline of 0.1%. This is normal, as people become sick. However, it
