1.2 What is the meaning of the word ‘education’? (2)
Education refers to the process of gaining knowledge, values, skills, and habits. It is a
lifelong process that occurs formally in schools and informally through everyday life
experiences. Education helps individuals become responsible and informed members of
society.
1.3 Explain the following concepts:
a) Meritocracy (1)
Meritocracy is a system where people succeed based on their ability, effort, and talent
rather than their background, social class, or wealth.
b) Social class (1)
Social class refers to a division of society based on social and economic status. It
includes levels such as upper, middle, and lower class.
c) Solidarity (1)
Solidarity means unity and shared purpose within a group or society. It helps create
social cohesion and a sense of belonging.
d) Micro-sociological approach (1)
The micro-sociological approach focuses on small-scale social interactions between
individuals and groups, such as in classrooms or families.
