1.1 The alphabet m is a bilabial sound because it is articulated on
both the upper and lower lip. Provide words that contain the
places of articulation provided below and state why each has
been given their name. Do not forget to underline the alphabet

a) Palatal

 Word: yes
 Explanation: The /j/ sound in "yes" is palatal because it is
produced with the body of the tongue raised against the hard palate
(the middle part of the roof of the mouth). It's called palatal due to
the involvement of the palate in articulation.



b) Alveolar

 Word: time
 Explanation: The /t/ sound in "time" is alveolar because the
tongue touches or approaches the alveolar ridge, which is the
bony ridge just behind the upper front teeth. It's called alveolar
because of this alveolar ridge location.
