, Special Education Reform Persuasive Speech
Just picture a classroom where every student, regardless of their learning abilities, has a chance
to thrive, where their needs are met, voices are heard, and their complex work shows. Today, far
too many students with disabilities face barriers that limit their opportunities to be successful.
But we have the power to change that. Now is the time to reform the special education system,
not just the students. When we invest in the success of every child, we invest in a more united,
more substantial, inclusive society for every person.
Problems
The Special education program is designed to help students become successful in the
classroom and throughout their life. Teachers strive to give each student the resources and
services to which each child is entitled. Special education instructors require professional
development, and training constitutes another important concern. Studies and data show that
lacking specialized training leads to ineffective teaching practices, hindering student success
(U.S. Department of Education, 2021). When there is insufficient training, several educators
enter the field with preparation that is not suitable to address the needs of students with unique or
challenging learning needs. (Baker et al., 2021)." As a result, teacher preparation programs
should have more complete training with evidence-based strategies, which would allow a better
understanding of how to work with students with disabilities. The administration should address
the ongoing professional development training, so educators have the resources to stay updated
with the latest teaching methods, research, and practices.
During the IEP process, the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) provides inclusion for
students with disabilities to get equal educational opportunities alongside their general education
