Paraeducator Case Scenario
Communication between paraeducators and teachers is crucial for an effective classroom
and very beneficial for the students. “ Establishing open and clear communication is crucial to
any kind of partnership. Some of the first steps to establishing that foundation are discussing how
you would like to communicate” (National Education Association, 2024). Sometimes there can
be a struggle with decision-making between the two. “ Delegating relationships is making
decisions on what a teacher should do and what a paraeducator should do. Some special
education teachers and other specialists struggle to direct tasks to para educators and hold them
accountable to complete those tasks” ( Friend and Cooke, 2017). Clear tasks and goals need to
be set from the beginning. This will help everyone know what they need to do and can ask direct
questions about what is expected if needed. Although a teacher and a para educator can have
different ways of teaching, they should have the same end goals and that is that the students meet
their goals and have a successful year.
, Mrs. Nesser and Ms. Taylor must have clear communication during their collaboration.
One way to start that is by Mrs. Nesser getting to know her para. “ Relationships are the
foundation of collaboration” ( National Education Association,2024). Since they disagree on
classroom management it is important to build that trust and relationship on how Mrs, Nesser
wants her classroom to run. In their classroom, they have four students with special needs. They
have four students with learning disabilities and two with emotional disabilities. Respecting each
other's jobs and teaching abilities is a goal they need for their collaboration. The two teachers
will not be able to lead the classroom without communication, respect, and trust.
Mrs. Nesser has her roles and responsibilities and those are to create a curriculum that fits
the needs of all the individual students. Every student learns differently so every student should
