Board - ANS-Department of Kentucky State Police Personnel Board
Cabinet - ANS-Justice and Public Safety Cabinet
Cadet Trooper - ANS-applicant for employment as an officer selected by the
commissioner to attend the department training program
Civilian - ANS-experts, statisticians, clerks, and other assistants who are not peace
officers
Commissioner - ANS-commissioner of the Department of Kentucky State Police
Qualifications of commissioner - ANS-more than twenty-eight (28) years of age; citizen
of the United States; at least five (5) years experience in public or police administration
Organization of department - ANS-consists of the commissioner and the number of
officers, individuals employed as a Trooper R Class, CVE R Class, and civilians, and
shall be organized as the commissioner determines
Qualifications of officers - ANS-at least twenty-one (21) years of age; good moral
character and in good health; citizens of the United States and residents of the
Commonwealth; possess a minimum of sixty (60) hours of credit, or an associate
degree, from an accredited college or university; or possess a high school diploma with
at least two (2) years' experience in the military or in law enforcement; or possess a
high school diploma or GED with additional experience established by the
commissioner
Appointment of deputy commissioner - ANS-commissioner may appoint a deputy
commissioner who must be a current or honorably retired member of the Kentucky
State Police
Appointment and compensation of personnel - ANS-commissioner shall appoint or
promote officers to the ranks and grades and positions of the department; initial
appointments of officers shall be made for merit and fitness after a competitive
