Abstract
The presence of stray dogs in urban and rural areas poses significant challenges to
civilian populations. This paper explores the multifaceted negative impacts of stray dogs on
1
, communities, focusing on public health, safety, and socio-economic factors. Stray dogs are
often carriers of diseases such as rabies, leptospirosis, and various parasitic infections, which
pose direct health risks to humans. This paper aims to highlight the urgent need for sustainable
solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of stray dogs on civilian populations.
This research paper investigates the negative impacts of stray dogs on the civilian
population of San Juan City, focusing on public health, safety, and socio-economic factors.
Stray dogs, often abandoned or born on the streets, pose significant challenges to communities
due to their role as carriers of zoonotic diseases such as rabies and leptospirosis, which can
directly affect human health. The study identifies the risks associated with dog bites and
aggressive behavior, leading to physical injuries and psychological trauma among victims.
Through qualitative research methods, the study delves into the perceptions of residents
regarding safety concerns, especially for vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.
Furthermore, it explores how stray dogs create social disturbances, impacting the overall well-
being of the community.
The findings underscore the urgent need for effective management strategies, including
public awareness campaigns, vaccination programs for stray dogs, and humane control
measures, to mitigate these adverse effects. Ultimately, this paper aims to contribute to a safer
and healthier environment in San Juan City by highlighting the necessity for proactive solutions
to address the challenges posed by stray dogs.
