A1: Factors to Consider

The first factor to be considered is the organization of the team. The team roles and

the duties of those roles should be well established upfront. Understanding the team's

organization is like knowing a player's position on a football team. The team is set up for

success through every member playing their role towards a common goal.

The diversity of a team's skills and talents is a second factor to consider. Team members

should have a wide range of professional skills that work collectively to be greater than the sum

of its parts. A well-rounded, diverse team is capable of excellent efficiency and creative and

new ways of solving problems to help the organization.

A third factor for consideration when creating a professional team or work group is

team member compatibility. Not all team members need to become best friends and vacation

with each other. However, team members must have a professional working relationship.

Teams should be built with personalities in mind in order to prevent inefficient team dynamics.

A2: Three Practices

The first practice to help build trust among team members is practicing direct and open

communication among those members. Direct communication leads to transparency and a

culture of trust in the team. Direct communication is necessary in order to implement the

following practices.

The second practice is setting clear goals and timelines for the team’s projects. Setting

clear goals and timelines allows all team members to be on the same page and row in the same

direction. Without clear goals and timelines, deadlines will be missed, and business could be

lost. A team that misses deadlines is incompetent and will not succeed.
