The aging process analysis My attitude toward aging According to Lee et al. (2011), aging is a gradual process where human beings change gradually over time and acquire different social, physical, and psychological traits determining their behavior and actions towards each other. Additionally, when one grows older, one develops numerous memories and experiences that differentiate their attitude. My attitude towards the aging process is mixed since there are both great and bad achievements that one makes in their life. Firstly aging is an achievement for many; since I am currently in my twenties, I would like to grow older, experience that world, and become happier. As one becomes older, it means that have successfully experienced the problematic and positive aspects of life and conquered them proactively. Additionally, they have avoided the negatives like poor health, excessive leisure, and accidents that would have led to death. Additionally, aging is a motivation form for youngsters since older adults can set milestones to achieve and improve their current situation. When one is elderly and wealthy, it means that they were hardworking in their younger years and saved money to afford leisure during their older days. However, if one is elderly and poor, they are considered lazy during their younger (which is untrue) by society. Therefore, youths can especially understand the importance of education and look for better jobs and retirement benefits to prevent poverty after age. On the other hand, I also have a negative attitude towards the aging process since I believe as one grows older, they become more vulnerable to diseases, losing their jobs, and over depending on others for livelihood. 3 As one grows older, they are prone to chronic illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, and cancer. Additionally, older people are exposed to fatalities when they fall and are less mobile, unlike younger people. Besides that, older people are more likely to lose their jobs since they become slower and less efficient (due to unconscious bias). Therefore these are the negative aspects of aging; however, I think that older people gain more experience and exposure, improving their perception of reality. Concept of successful aging According to Nyberg & Pudas (2019), successful aging is based on social, physical, psychological, and mental well-being. Firstly one ages successfully without making diseases; as one is diagnosed with chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension, their quality of life deteriorates, leading to poor satisfaction and financial drain as one seeks to cover their medical bills. Additionally, successful aging should be aligned with social support. Older people feel happier financially and mentally supported by younger family and friends. However, older adults that the family neglects are more likely to suffer emotional and financial stress, accounting for early deaths. Finally, successful aging should be attached to self-actualization, where one can comfortably cover their bills and afford basic needs. Factors affecting my relationship with the aging process. Numerous factors impact my attachment to the aging process; firstly, one must retire. Although our jobs are challenging and expose us to stress, we enjoy leaving our homes every morning due to our financial income. However, retiring means we will not have colleagues to talk to and will only depend on retirement benefits and savings made over the years. Secondly, our lifestyle will change significantly as we age since we are more prone to physical and 4 emotional issues. The aging process also means our health is at a higher risk of deterioration. For example, physical inactivity makes us more likely to get diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. This affects my relationship with aging since I would like to have good health and be free from suffering. Impacts of aging on mental health. The aging will significantly affect my mental health; firstly, as we grow older, we are more likely to be alone due to retirement, the children will move to their spouse's homes, and some friends will probably pass on. Therefore we will not always have anyone to walk with, leading to loneliness. Aging also increases anxiety; due to aging, people observe the actual impacts of death on their friends. Therefore anxiety may occur when we fail to understand how the end will occur. (Freedman et al., 2019). The stress prevention methods during the aging process. There are numerous approaches to prevent stress during the aging process; firstly, speaking to a professional counselor to help us understand how to relieve stress during the aging process and eliminate the negative aspects of our lives. Secondly is creating a better connection with others. Having more friends and close family members means we will have people to talk to when exposed to stress and express our displeasure and pain. During aging, one should have alternative financial sources since money will be vital for stress prevention. Money is needed to purchase necessities like medication, clothes, and food and pay monthly bills without bothering other people.
