Negligent Entrustment - Inadequately preparing employees prior to entrusting them with

Post-dispatching phase - giving updates, changing locations on the status monitor,
checking status of units, relaying returns information increases liability.

providing the information, giving accurate and pertinent information, maintaining control
and composure increases liability.
Call receiving Phase - Correct addresses, verifying addresses, calling hang ups back,
asking about weapons, gathering suspect description all increases liability
Good Samaritan Law - if a volunteer comes to the aid of a stranger the person giving
aid owes the stranger a duty of being reasonably careful.
Standard of care - the watchfulness, attention, caution and prudence that a reasonable
person in the circumstance would exercise
Negligent retention - keeping employees on the job or promoting them on the basis of
favoritism or friendship when they should have been disciplined, demoted, or dismissed

vicarious liability - "imputed liability" an attachment of responsibility to a person for harm
or damages caused by another person in either a negligence lawsuit or criminal

increased or decreased sexual desire, acting out, pacing the floor.

ANI/ ALI - Automatic Number Identification / Automatic Location Identification
Emergency notification system - this is used to reach the public when some sort of
notification is needed, not typically a PSAP function
Half Duplex - radio system in which other transmission and reception are possible but
only one direction at a time. may be a push to talk switch required to communicate
Portable radios - a completely self contained 2-way radio having a
microphone/speaker/battery supply and antenna built into the unit
TDD (Telecommunications device for the deaf) - training must be taken or received
every 6 months
Magic jack - to make or receive calls, computer must be on and the software must be
running to use this, 911 service will not operate unless you register your correct address
Full Duplex - a radio system that is point to point communication system composed of 2
or more connected devices that can communicate with each other in both directions.
Equal access - means the telephone emergency services provided to TTY users are as
effective as those for persons who make voice calls
Simplex - radio technology that allows one way communication
Direct Access - the PSAP can directly receive teletypewriter for deaf calls without
relying on an outside relay service or 3rd party
voice carry over - allows the caller to speak directly to the call taker and read the
response
