US HISTORY 2 ID TERMS EXAM 2
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
League of Nations - ANSWER-After World War 1, when the nations leaders joined
together to speak upon the Great War and how they were going to settle, Woodrow
Wilson came up with a 14 point peace plan. In this plan, he depicted a "League of
Nations", which he envisioned to be a group of all the nations keeping everyone in
check with punishments if one nation ever got too aggressive and/or powerful. He
proposed this because, like the idealist he is, he saw that the league would keep
further war happening FOREVER. Many of the nations saw the pledge of the
leagues as unrealistic and he went home with a failed plan. As well, when he got
back to the U.S., he received backlash from the population of Republicans because
they believed the plan would allow Germany to regain power and rise back up. This
is important to American history because it was declined, making no future peace
treaties between the countries to avoid further war, in which World War 2 occurs.
First Red Scare - ANSWER-widespread fear of Communism in the US during the
1920s after the revolution in Russia
Allied Powers - ANSWER-During World War 1, one of the sides of the war was the
Allied Powers. On this side of the war, countries consisted of France, Britain, Russia,
Italy, U.S., and Japan. All of the countries except Russia on this side were diplomatic
countries so they all seemed to agree on policies. The allied powers began to fight
the Central Powers when the Central powers began making advancements into
countries like Holland and Belgium. Another contribution to the Allied Powers getting
involved was the Slavic people of Sarajevo wanting to be relieved from Austria-
Hungary. The countries on this side slowly joined the war over time because they
saw their allied countries needing help fighting the war. The Allied Powers is so
important to American History because it shows who the U.S.A. fought with and for
and how the different sides were able to be successful with one another.
Lusitania - ANSWER-During World War 1, before the United States joined the war,
America declared neutrality in the war. Although we declared neutrality, the U.S. still
wanted the Allied Powers to win so they did everything they could in secret to aid the
Allied Powers without sending actual troops. Therefore, the U.S. kept sending
money, equipment and weapons over to the Allied Powers ports. The Lusitania was
a large British Cruise liner that went to New York City and picked up Americans,
which then set sail and looked at the English Isles. However, during the war, it was
sought that America was using this subtle passenger ship to send over tons of
weapons and ammunition to Britain at the lowest deck of the ship. Germany felt
suspicious of this occurring and blew the ship up, making it instantly sink within 15
minutes. Germany did this because they did not want the opposing side to have their
hands on these resources. As well, they were tired of the U.S. claiming neutrality and
believed that the U.S. Army was weak anyways. This is important in American
history because this action angered Americans, filling them with more passion to join
the war and hate the Germans.
