Abstract
This action research investigates the impact of a literacy intervention on the ability of
kindergarten students to accurately segment phonemes, which is a foundational skill in early
literacy development. This study focuses on students who struggle with phoneme segmentation
fluency, which is measured by a pre and post test from the DIBELS Phoneme Segmentation
Fluency (PSF) assessment. A small group intervention was implemented to target these
students, aiming to improve their phonemic awareness and set them on a path toward a
successful reading future.
