Abduction - ANSMovement of a limb going away from the midline or median plane of
the body along the frontal plane. Also used to describe movement of fingers and toes
when spreading apart.

Adduction - ANSMovement of a limb going toward the midline of the body. Also used to
describe movement of the fingers and toes coming together

Allis sign - ANSUsed to detect unequal leg length. The nurse is positioned at infant's
feet while infant is supine. The nurse flexes the infants knees keeping the femurs
aligned and compares the height of the knees.

Atrophy - ANSTranslucent, dry, paper like, sometimes wrinkled skin surface resulting
from thinning or wasting of the skin due to loss of collagen and elastin.

Barlow's sign - ANSThe presence of a click or clunk when the hips are manually
externally rotated with the knee flexed

occur toward the body midline or away from it.

Supination - ANSMovements of the radius around the ulna. Palm faces anteriorly or
superiorly

Tendon - ANSFibrous bands that attach muscle to bone or muscle to muscle.

What does the Allis' test indicate - ANSFlex the infant's knees while lying supine,
keeping the femurs aligned, and compare the height of the knees. An uneven heigh
indicates unequal leg length and can be an indication of a dislocated hip.
