In journal articles information needs to be accurate and justified for a scientific study.

The four validities: construct, external, statistical, and internal validity help determine if the

study presents accurate information. The following articles will explain the validities and

determine if the journal article is good or bad.

Article 1: Romantic Red Revisited: Red Enhances Men’s Attraction to Young, but Not

Menopausal Women

The study performed by the Sascha and Singer evaluate the factor of age and the

attraction of women who are wearing the color red. The article states a casual claim that wearing

red causes younger women to be more attractive than menopausal women when associated with

the color red (Sascha & Singer, 2013). The first validity is a construct validity and questions on

how well each study done is manipulated or measured (Morling, 2015). For the Romantic Red

Revisited study there were 100 participants that range from 25 years old to 53 years old in a

shopping area. The chosen participants looked at the pictures of young and older woman with

the background of the color red. For construct validity the study did not measure a variety of

participants to determine the conclusion that all men find a younger woman with the background

color red more preferable than menopausal woman with the red enhancement. The study

involved a few variations of pictures to manipulate the independent variable but lacked variation

in participants which indicates a subpar journal article for the construct validity. Would the

studies hypothesis change if there were more men in the study because men have different

qualities that they like in a women’s appearance?
