Applying Social Psychology and Personality

Social psychology is a field of scientific study that examines how individuals' thoughts,

emotions, and actions are shaped by the real, perceived, or implicit presence of others. Learning

to use social psychology and personality enables an understanding of how individuals and

groups interact. This form of Psychology contributes to society by providing insights into human

behavior and social dynamics, which can inform various fields and endeavors. Exploring ideas

such as attributions, stereotypes, social norms, and personality traits deepens the understanding

of diverse relationships in social settings.

Individual, Group, or Societal Behavior

Attributions and stereotypes are part of social processes that explain how individuals

explain their behaviors, beliefs, or assumptions. In addition to these attributes, personality traits

interact with them to shape an individual's perception of social situations (Diener et al., 2019).

confident and outgoing. She thinks of the feedback as ways that she can better himself for the

future and has a much more positive outlook. She attributes success or failures to external

circumstances rather than internal factors.

their behavior in social situations (Quebec, 2022). For example, three classmates, Sarah, Jim, and

Stephen, are assigned to work on a group project. Stephen is a minority. As they brainstorm
