Functies
- Contractie en relaxatie van gladde spieren (bloedvaten, darmen, luchtwegen)
- Secretie van klieren (spijsverteringsenzymen, zweet, speeksel)
- Regulatie van hartslag en bloeddruk
- Energiehuishouding (glucosemetabolisme, vetverbranding)
Indeling
- Extrinsiek autonoom zenuwstelsel
o Sympathisch (“fight-or-flight”)
▪ Activeert het lichaam in stress- of noodsituaties
▪ Belangrijk voor vasculaire tonus en stressrespons
▪ Anatomie: ontspringt thoracolumbaal en heeft korte preganglionaire
vezels die schakelen in paravertebrale zijketens (truncus sympaticus) en
prevertebrale ganglia (vezels voor GI-stelsel).
Hebben lange postganglionaire vezels
▪ Typische effecten: tachycardie, verhoogde bloeddruk, bronchodilatatie,
mydriase (pupilverwijding), toename perifere weerstand (vasoconstrictie)
o Parasympathisch (“rest-and-digest”)
▪ Belangrijk voor motiliteit en secretie
▪ Stimuleert herstelprocessen
▪ Anatomie: craniale takken (incl. n. vagus) en sacrale takken, lange
preganglionaire vezels die schakelen dicht bij het doelorgaan, hebben
korte postganglionaire vezels
▪ Typische effecten: spijsvertering, stimuleert energieopslag, vertraagt de
hartslag

Neurotransmitters
- Acetylcholine (ACh)

o werkt via verschillende muscarine- en nicotine receptoren
o Kliersecretie wordt beïnvloed door ACh via muscarinereceptoren
- Noradrenaline (NA)

(beïnvloeden van eigen neurotransmittervrijstelling=homotrope interacties; bv
NA remt eigen vrijstelling via α2-receptor, ACh remt eigen vrijstelling via
specifieke muscarine receptor)
▪ NA uit OS-vezels → remt afgifte van ACh door PS-vezels
• NA bindt aan presynaptische cholinerge vezels → inhibeert zo
ACh-afgifte
▪ ACh uit PS-vezels → remt afgifte van NA door OS-vezels
• ACh bindt aan presynaptische adrenerge vezels → inhibeert zo
NA-afgifte
o Altijd 1 systeem dat domineert afhankelijk van de fysiologische situatie en noden
van het lichaam
