Assessment wellbeing questionnaire

Question 1 (learning goal 13). Describe your sample including sample size and the relevant sample
statistics of the background variables (gender, year and region). Sample statistics can be reported
for the whole sample, and do not have to be reported for boys and girls separately for example.

De grootte van de sample is 500 participanten. De sample bestaat uit 254 jongens en 246 meisjes. 40
participanten in groep 8.

Question 2 (learning goal 7, see also SPSS session 1 and worked example Ch. 3 part III)

a. Shortly describe what the three subscales of the wellbeing questionnaire intend to
measure and how these scales are constructed. Include a description of which items belong
to which subscales and on what scales the items and the subscales are measured.

b. Calculate sum scores (total scores) for the separate subscales of the test and call these
scales resp. Commitment_T1, Relation_T1 and Autonomy_T1. Report the SPSS steps
needed to do this. NOTE: You must take missing values into account! To do so, use the
‘mean.n’ function that you practiced with in the first SPSS session, while computing sum
scores (total scores). You may choose your own “n”, as long as you provide a justification.
Briefly explain what “n” count you went with and why.

Transform  compute  target variable  mean.n

c. Finally, test whether boys and girls differ on each of the three subscales using the
appropriate statistical tests. Report the outcomes, including the group means and standard
deviations (effect sizes are not required).

Independent sample t-test. Groeperingsvariabele is gender.

Commitment:

,Groepsgemiddelde jongens = 23,3781 (std. deviatie = 3,525)

Groepsgemiddelde meisjes = 23,4560 (std. deviatie = 2,406)

commitment

Relaties:

Groepsgemiddelde jongens = 13,2511 (std. deviatie = 1,566)

Groepsgemiddelde meisjes = 13,0178 (std. Deviatie = 2,168)

autonomie

Question 3 (learning goal 7, 13, see Course 2.2) Previous research has shown that the scale scores
might be related to region and year. Use factorial ANOVAs to evaluate whether the average scale
scores (for the variables Commitment_T1, Relation_T1 and Autonomy_T1) are different for the
background variables region and year. Make sure to check for main effects and interaction effects.
Report ANOVA effect sizes, partial eta squared. Report Post Hoc tests where needed and provide an
interpretation (effect sizes for Post Hoc tests are not required).

Two-way ANOVA

Commitment:

 Eta squared R-squared is 0,151

Options  estimates of effect size  partial eta squared

Klein; in de buurt 0,01, Middel; 0,06, Groot; 0,14

Relatie:

Hoofdeffect van regio is niet significant (p=0,681)

Hoofdeffect van jaar is wel significant (p=0,010)

Interactie-effect van regio*jaar is niet significant (p=0,651)
