Provide a matrix in which the dominant strategy pair offers a solution that is
socially desirable and a matrix in which the dominant strategy pair offers a
solution that is suboptimal. (Game-Theory) - 🧠 ANSWER ✔✔...
Are all Nash equilibria dominant strategy pairs? Are all dominant strategy
pairs Nash equilibria? Explain your answers. (Game-Theory) - 🧠 ANSWER
✔✔- Nash equilibria: none of the players can improve their situation
unilaterally deviating from the strategies played in equilibrium
- Any dominant strategy is nash equilibria bc a player in the game would
not benefit from switching to another strategy since the dominant one is
already selected
- Not all nash equilibria are dominant strategy pairs because in nash
equilibria there is only one dominant strategy for all players and it depends
on the actions of the other players

,- In many games there can be no dominant strategies, and yet there are
Nash Equilibria.
In a Prisoners' Dilemma, individual rationality does not lead to collective
rationality. Explain. (Game-Theory) - 🧠 ANSWER ✔✔While both people
would benefit from not ratting on the other and staying silent, they have no
way to know what the other person will do and they are choosing at the
same time, so they will choose the outcome that benefits them the most out
of individual rationality and not the outcome that benefits everyone and
leads to collective rationality. Since the prisoners would implicate each
other out of individual rationality, they will end up with the worst possible
outcome.
A public goods game is an n-person Prisoners' Dilemma. Explain. (Game-
Theory) - 🧠 ANSWER ✔✔If everyone contributed everyone would win
which leads to collective rationality, however free riders will often take
advantage of the gains without contributing, which leads to the end of the
public goods game. This is similar to a Prisoners' Dilemma because if every
prisoner stayed silent they would both benefit, but if they implicate each
other the are only hurting themselves and picking the optimal scenario.

,What motivations might lead to cooperation in repeated Public Goods
game? (Game-Theory) - 🧠 ANSWER ✔✔(1) Altruism: to identify with the
common good
(2) Reciprocity: by contributing, I invite others to contribute as well, which
benefits me in the long run
(3) Social norms: abiding by social norms acts that are for the interest of
the common good
(4) Inequality aversion: contributing because of the expectation to increase
social equality
Two farmers have different crop specializations though they are capable of
growing both crops fairly competently. However, if they both grow the same
crop, there will be a glut and prices will collapse. Show the matrix for this
game and show how it is a coordination game with two Nash equilibria (in
pure strategies) with one equilibrium preferred by both players. (Game-
Theory) - 🧠 ANSWER ✔✔...
Two programmers have different preferred programming languages, and
their project will progress poorly unless they work in the same language.

Explain why the Game of Chicken and the Hawk-Dove game are
represented by a single matrix. What strategies in one game map onto
what strategies in the other game? Why might it lead to a disastrous
situation? (Game-Theory) - 🧠 ANSWER ✔✔The Game of Chicken and the
Hawk-Dove game are represented by a single matrix because they both
have two equilibria and without coordinating with the other player on an
equilibria, tragedy will ensue in both games. If both players aim to enter
different equilibria by either playing hawk or going straight expecting that
the other swerves, then a disastrous situation will occur because both will
die or crash.
Explain how climate change can be represented as a Hawk-Dove game
and show what can be done to avoid that disaster will ensue. (Game-
Theory) - 🧠 ANSWER ✔✔- Climate change can be represented as a Hawk-
Dove game because there are two equilibria and both parties, China and
the US, aim for the one that is most advantageous to themselves leading to
the tragedy of climate change.
