BHS-430 Topic 3 Brainstorming Questions
1. My parents often say that their decisions are always right, and I should not challenge them?
False. My parents have always fostered an open dialogue and shown interest in my opinions
and respected my decisions.
2. My parents encourage me to challenge their opinions at any platform?
I don’t know that I would say they encourage me to challenge their opinions, but they do not
discourage me from challenging their opinions. In fact, we have had many debates around the
dinner table that has led to my (and now my children) having a robust vocabulary and the
ability to carry on an intelligent conversation with anyone in any walk of life.
3. My parents hear my opinion even when they do not like it.
They absolutely listen to my opinion even they do not like
it.
4. I discuss everything with my parents without hesitation?
Now, as an adult I discuss all things with my parents without hesitation. When I was growing
up, everything was open for discussion, but my mom experienced sexual abuse as a child and
spent most of her life avoiding the topic of sex, so I never felt comfortable broaching that
subject with her as a teen or young adult.
5. In our family, we often talk about our plans and hopes for the future
This is one of my favorite things to do with my husband. It is also something I’ve always
done with my parents growing up. I feel like if we stop dreaming, we stop living.
6. My parents often get annoyed with me in front of
others Never.
7. In our family, we often support each
other Absolutely!
8. My parents usually say that you should always review both sides of a matter.
They always have. My dad has always taken on the role of “the devil’s advocate” and I have
learned well. It is an interesting discussion point of view.
9. Disagreement is openly expressed in our family.
Disagreement is guaranteed in a family of this size. My husband and I have 6 kids – 2 teens, 1
pre-teen, 2 elementary kids, and 1 preschooler. My parents also live with us. As well as 3 dogs
and 2 cats. I wish there was less disagreement, however that is not going to happen, so we try
to teach our children how to express disagreement in a healthy and respectful way.
10. My family members strongly motivate each other to hold up for their rights?
My family members take their job of protecting one another very seriously. We motivate one
another and encourage each member to only accept the best and to know what they are
worth.
11. In our family, we often discuss current issues at home?

regarding any issues that are happening, whether these issues are based in our own home, the
world around us, or a friend’s house.
12. My parents feel good when I ask various questions?
