Topic 2 DQ 1
Some families are more resilient than others. Research the characteristics of a family
and identify which characteristic you think is most important in helping families to be
resilient. Justify your answer.
Hello class and professor,
The idea of family resilience is how a family, as a unit, can overcome and adapt to challenges
(Walsh, 2021). Maybe it is because I come from a family that struggled with all three family
characteristics that makes me think a balance of all three that makes a family resilient. I think a
family with a higher level of cohesion could be more resilient. The textbook describes
cohesion as emotional tightness to each other in a family (Olson et al., 2022). I think
understanding your own emotions as well being able to express them to those who are close
and experience some events with you can help be more resilient to whatever life throws at a
family. When a family has a higher level of cohesion, they have generally built up their
relationships by spending time together and learning how each other works over time. The
leads to the family feeling safer to discuss their emotions openly.

Topic 2 DQ 2
As you read about the strengths of different cultures and their family patterns, what
is one cultural aspect your family does not currently observe but you would like
to see integrated into your family pattern?
Hello class and professor,
My family culture is European American, although looking back on growing up, I feel like my
family did not have any of the strengths listed in the textbook for this culture. However,
looking to the future, I think I want to integrate many of the patterns from different cultures. I
think that looking at these other cultures gives a good base for what a person could want their
family to be like. To me, the biggest pattern that stood out is developing strong relationships
