first priority of care: "C" - ANS-compressions are the first best thing to do for a patient that has
no pulse - maintains some level of blood circulation
second priority of care: "A" - ANS-airway, mouth to lungs, must be open and clear in order to
apply breathing / ventilation
third priority of care: "B" - ANS-breathing must be given whenever the patient has no pulse, or if
there is a pulse but no obvious signs of normal breathing.

how many compressions per minute should be used? - ANS-a rate of 100 compressions per
minute
how far to push during compressions - adults - ANS-2 inches

every 2 minutes, or about 5 cycles
what is 1 cycle of compression / ventilation? - ANS-30 compressions followed by 2 ventilations
ventilation - ANS-using a Seal Easy Mask or Bag Valve Mask to delivery air into a patients lungs
what is the duration of a ventilation? - ANS-about 1 second
jaw thrust with head tilt - ANS-used on patients that have no spinal injury
jaw thrust without head tilt - ANS-used on patients with suspected spinal injury
How to use AED - ANS-chest must be dry, apply pads, turn on AED and follow display
instructions, deliver shock, immediately resume compressions
priority of care for drowning - ANS-priority is just AB (airway, breathing) until removed from the
water.
