, INTRODUCTION
In order to take the popularization of teaching foreign languages to a
new level in our country and to organize systematic work for the development of
the field, to educate the growing young generation in all aspects, and to create all
the conditions for this, the Cabinet of Ministers decides:
1. "On the State Budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2022" of the
Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Public
Education and the Agency for Popularization of Foreign Language Learning under
the Cabinet of Ministers (hereinafter - the Agency) A one-time 15.0 approve the
proposal to allocate financial assistance in the amount of billion soums.
Let the Ministry of Finance, starting from 2023, provide the necessary funds
for the formation of the funds of the Fund in the parameters of the State budget,
according to the Agency's based calculations.1 The acquisition of a second
language is a multifaceted process influenced by an array of factors, including
cognitive, social, and environmental variables. As we delve into the theoretical
frameworks that underpin SLA, we confront questions surrounding the innate
capacity for language acquisition, the role of input and interaction, and the impact
of individual differences. From behaviorist theories to cognitive models and socio-
cultural perspectives, a comprehensive understanding of SLA necessitates an
exploration of diverse theoretical lenses. We navigate through the rich tapestry of
SLA research, illuminating key concepts and debates that shape our understanding
of how individuals acquire and internalize a second language. Within the realm of
language pedagogy, an array of methodologies and approaches seek to facilitate
the acquisition and development of second language proficiency. From traditional

,grammar-translation methods to communicative and task-based approaches,
educators grapple with the challenge of selecting and implementing effective
teaching strategies.
In this chapter, we dissect various language teaching methodologies,
examining their underlying principles, instructional techniques, and pedagogical
implications. By critically evaluating the strengths and limitations of different
approaches, we strive to illuminate the evolving landscape of language education
in an increasingly interconnected world. Translation, as both a linguistic activity
and a cultural practice, occupies a central position in our exploration. From ancient
manuscripts to modern-day global communication, translators play a vital role in
mediating linguistic and cultural boundaries. Drawing upon insights from
translation studies, linguistics, and cultural theory, we embark on a journey
through the theory and practice of translation. We delve into the intricacies of
linguistic equivalence, cultural adaptation, and the ethical dimensions of
translation, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities that confront
translators in a diverse and dynamic linguistic landscape.
As we navigate the terrain of SLA and translation, we uncover the myriad
intersections with other disciplines, including cognitive psychology,
sociolinguistics, and technology. From the cognitive processes underlying
language acquisition to the role of translation in intercultural communication, our
exploration extends beyond the confines of traditional disciplinary boundaries. In
the concluding section of this introduction, we reflect on the interdisciplinary
nature of our inquiry and chart a course for future research and pedagogical
practice. By embracing a holistic and dynamic approach, we seek to illuminate the
interconnectedness of language, culture, and cognition in shaping our
understanding of second language acquisition and translation. In essence, this

landscape of second language acquisition and translation. Through a
multidimensional lens, we embark on a journey that transcends linguistic
boundaries, inviting readers to engage with the complexities and nuances that
define these pivotal fields.
CHAPTER 1 FOUNDATIONS OF SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
1.1. Introduction to Second Language Acquisition
Written for students encountering the topic for the first time, this is a
clear and practical introduction to second language acquisition (SLA). Using non-
technical language, it explains how a second language is acquired; what the learner
of a second language needs to know; and why some learners are more successful
than others. This new edition of Muriel Saville-Troike’s bestselling textbook
introduces in a step-by-step fashion a range of fundamental concepts, such as SLA
in adults and children, in formal and informal learning contexts, and in diverse
socio-cultural settings. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, it encourages students
to consider SLA from linguistic, psychological, and social perspectives. Providing
a solid foundation in SLA, this book has become the leading introduction to the
field for students of linguistics, psychology, education, and trainee language
teachers. This new textbook series provides students and their teachers with
accessible introductions to the major subjects encountered within the study of
language and linguistics. Assuming no prior knowledge of the subject, each book
is written and designed for ease of use in the classroom or seminar, and is ideal for
adoption in a modular course as the core recommended textbook. Each book offers
the ideal introductory material for each subject, presenting students with an
