(RIGHT – ANGLED TRIANGLES)
- What is a right – angled triangle? A right – angled triangle is that
has an angle of 90 degrees.
- Since the sum of angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees, the
two remaining angles are 60 degrees and 30 degrees. Please
bear in mind that These angles will also help us find the ratios of
the triangle. Not all right – angled triangles have those degrees.
Let’s break it down so that we can understand it properly.
- In a right – angled triangle, the three sides have names.
- The longest side is The Hypotenuse side.
- Looking at the Cartesian plane, the side that is drawn on the
y – axis is called The Opposite side.
- The one on the x – axis is called The Adjacent side.
, WE WILL USE A METHOD CALLED SOHCAHTOA TO
CALCULATE OR IDENTIFY THE SIDES OF THE
TRIANGLE.
What is SOHCAHTOA? This method will help us identify
trigonometric ratios of the right – angled triangles.
It is divided like this SOH / CAH / TOA.
SOH – S = SIN; O = OPPOSITE; H = HYPOTENUSE
Therefore – sin = opposite divided by hypotenuse
CAH – C = COS; A = ADJACENT; H = HYPOTENUSE
Therefore – cos = adjacent divided by hypotenuse
TOA – T = TAN; O = OPPOSITE; A = ADJACENT
Therefore – tan = opposite divided by adjacent
