Week 4 Discussion: Midweek Comprehension Questions
Information literacy is critically important for all nurses, especially APNs. APNs must be able to
determine what information is needed, find the information, critique the information, provide
care based on this information, and evaluate the outcomes of the process. Sound challenging?
Continue to reflect upon strategies to facilitate this process. Provide a brief response (100 words
or less)
Answer:
Information literacy is not something that can be learned over night. In order to facilitate the
process of information literacy the APN must learn AND practice how to gather, critique, and
evaluate information and apply it to real life situations. A method that works for one patient may
not work for another, and the APN must be able to decipher this. Strategies to improve
information literacy as an APN include critical thinking, use of EBR and resources and effective
communication with patients. I believe that these strategies will help facilitate the APN
competency in information literacy.

information literacy. Being able to apply evidence based research from our projects and papers
will help us fine tune skills once we are APNs.
