ABUSE is wrongful use and mistreatment
Long term: PTSD, substance use, anxiety and depression, guilt/shame, withdrawal.
Kids are more likely to do acting out behaviors like staying out late or missing school.
Adults seem to be on the withdrawal and suffer in silence part.
NEVER TOUCH AN ABUSED PT WITHOUT WARNING. Tell them what youre doing before doing
it
Family includes spouse spattering, phycial/social abuse, rape from husband/wife (marital
rape).
Some people may get rape from family members outside the household.
Substance use by family can cause violence more frequent and intense.
Patterns of violence is passed down in the family as conflict resolution.
Abuse covers all the things, there is none in particular
Pregnant women experience more violence than not being pregnant.
Same sex couples abuse is the same as heterosex couples
Honeymoon phase is when they go to church, send flowers, and love you so much… then
they abuse again
There is a waiting list for rehoming people too like kids and stuff

Physical abuse is unjustifiable abuse like beaten black and blue, burned, bit, scolled, or
poked
Neglect is the most common type of child abuse
Parents are typically abused or something as a kid
First step is safety for the kids
Treatment for the child depends on the age of the child
Elder abuse and special needs (not depenedent ppl) is anyone over 65, some are abused by
their care givers… sad.
