, Coronary Artery Disease: quantitative article review

“While common, yet preventative”. Coronary artery disease remains one of

the many leading causes of death in the United States, even today. Coronary Artery

Disease is an abnormality in the cardiovascular system in which the muscles of the

heart are damaged, because of a blocked artery by the formation of atherosclerotic

plaque in the vessels (Shahjehan et. al, 2023). According to the Center for Disease

Control and Prevention (2023) about 695,000 people died to heart disease in the

United States in 2021 and 1 of 20 adults aging twenty years and older have

coronary artery disease. As a society and the increase in population, it is time to

fight back and lower the rate of coronary artery disease, by change in lifestyle,

healthcare providers continuity of care through consultations and follow-up, and

patients willingness to seek medical attention that is needed. The purpose of this

dissertation is to propose a review of an article that provides supporting details

about ways that a change can be made with those who suffer from this

preventative disease. “Long-term hospital-based secondary prevention of coronary

artery disease: a randomized controlled trial” (Kaldal et. al,2021), was the chosen

article to identify quantitative literature about primary and secondary outcomes

and prevention of coronary artery disease. Although the authors conducted a

randomized control trial of patients who sustain cardiovascular events, the article

focused on patients receiving medical treatment with hospital-based follow-up care

versus primary follow-up care along with primary and secondary interventions that

can prevent recurring cardiovascular events.
