Rule 70.1 - answer Employees are responsible for their personal safety and
accountable for their behavior as a condition of employment. Employees must:
1) Work within the limits of their physical capabilities and not use excessive force to
accomplish tasks
2) Correct or protect any unsafe condition or practice and report to proper authority.
3) Be aware of the surroundings and maintain situational awareness to avoid risks
associated with required taks.
Rule 1.1 - answer Safety is the most important element in performing duties. Obeying
the rules is essential to:
1) Job Safety; and 2) Continued Employment
Rule 1.20 - answer Employees must expect the movement of trains, engines, cars or
other moveable equipment at any time in either direction
Rule 2.3 - answer When a mandatory directive or instruction concerning train movement
has been repeated correctly, the repeat must be acknowledged as correct
Rule 2.6 - answer An employee who does not understand a radio communication or
who receives a communication that is incomplete must NOT act upon the transmission
unless it affects the safety of the railroad or public and then the safe course must be
taken, including stopping the movement until communication is understood
Rule 6.5.1 - answerRemote control movements are considered SHOVING movements,
except when the remote control operator controlling the movement is riding the lead
locomotive in the direction of movement.
Rule 6.7 - answerBefore entering a remote control zone, all employees that are not part
of the remote control crew must determine whether the zone is activated. Employees
may receive this information from the remote control operator, other authorized
employee or special instruction.

use to perform their duties. If they are found to be defective, They must not use the
defective equipment or tools until they are safe to use and They must report those
defects to the proper authority

, Rule 70.6 - answerEmployees lifting and moving material must: (1) ensure secure
footing and a good grip on the materials, (2) Keep objects close , upper body erect, lift
smoothly and do not lift and twist at the same time.
Rule 71.7 - answerTransportation Department employees must wear approved footwear
while on duty. An example of this is Lace up Boots. Another example is a boot that has
a heal greater than 45 degrees but no more than 90.
Rule 71.2/71.2.2/71.2.3 - answerEmployees must wear approved hearing protection (a)
within 150 of master or group retarder during humping and trimming operations and (b)
anytime within a 150 feet radius of locomotive
Rule 71.5 - answerCompany approved eye protection must be worn while on company
property or on duty, except when in (a) enclosed vehicles (including locomotives, and
(b) in office areas and lunch rooms. Also in other designated areas by Supt.
Rule 76.1 - answerUse the correct tool or equipment for the task to be accomplished in
accordance with the manufacturer's operating instructions. Unauthorized use of tools,
equipment and machinery is prohibited.
Rule 80.1 - answerTo prevent slips, trips, and falls, erect barricades, signs or cones
where appropriate.
Rule 81.2.1 - answerWhen walking near or crossing tracks, step over rails, frogs,
switches, guard rails, etc.
Rule 80.5 - answerEmployees may not jump from equipment or structures such as
docks, trucks, rail cars, platforms, etc., or across ditches, pits, manholes, or other
openings.
Rule 80.2 - answerWhen walking, keep your eyes on the pathway. If hazardous
underfoot conditions exist, (a) keep your hands out of pockets for balance, (b) take
short, deliberate steps, with toes pointed outward, and (c) when stepping over objects,
such as rails, be sure your front foot is flat before moving your rear foot.
Rule 81.4.2 - answerEmployees are prohibited from getting on or off moving equipment
unless necessary to prevent injury to themselves or others.
