Purpose of Nursing and Theory Identify how an individual's needs are either met or not, predict future
needs, and prioritize those needs in order of importance.

Person (concept) Unique values, beliefs, intellect, cultural, spiritual, and physical
makeup. Complex being defining optimal health. Seek care based on
our needs. (person, family, community, or society)
Environment (concept) Complex set of numerous interacting external and internal factors that
influence and are influenced by health and health care. May be own
environment or interactions with other people. Positive = good health.
Non-positive = imbalance of optimal health
Health dynamic state of well-being. Impacted by internal and external
environment. Balance correlation with person and environment.
Nursing refers to process of caring for health of human beings and assisting
individuals in meeting their needs. While also teaching them the basics
of caring for themselves. Moving towards prevention.

-Task Oriented (intravenous)
Advanced Beginner (skill) -Focuses on more than 1 aspect (subject)
-Unable to prioritize
-If experience is repeated, can refer back to the previous.
Competent (skill) -more than 2 years of experience
-prioritizes tasks, gained organization skills
-lacks speed and flexibility.
Proficient (skill) -accurate focus on the problem
-flexible; rapid decision making
-very comfortable with her skills.
