• Gall stone is defined as the presence of stones in the
gall bladder or biliary passages.
• Gall stones are formed based on the imbalance of
chemical constituents of bile – that precipitate out
to form solid stone.
• Cholelithiasis or Cholecystolithiasis – gallstones in
gallbladder,
• Choledocholithiasis – gallstones in bile duct.

• The biliary tree consists of series of
ducts that carry bile from the
liver and gall bladder to the
duodenum.
• Bile is continuously secreted by
Hepatocytes, from where it drains
via canaliculi into interlobular
ducts and then collecting ducts,
which carry it to the left and right
hepatic ducts.
