uterus/vagina.

Post op equine evaulation: ✔✔Look for:
-Pain
-5 I's of Inflammation
-Febrile (fever)
Limb bandages: equine ✔✔Kept on 10-14 days post op.
-change every 2-3 days.
,Esmarch bandage ✔✔Prevents hemostasis in lower leg sx.
-forces blood out of the limb-allowing the surgeon to work in a bloodless
enviornment
-NEVER use over 2 hours.
Horses are prone to this when in dorsal recumbency for long periods of
time, i.e. during abdominal surgery. ✔✔Myopathies/Neuropathies
Ovariectomy is performed in this postion ✔✔Standing
-ventral midline approach
PU surgery/equine ✔✔Abnormal conformation of the vagina causes
pneumovagina/pneumouterus
vescovaginal reflux (urine backs up and pools in the uterus) causing
endometritis
Epidural: injection site ✔✔given between the last sacral(L5) and first
cocygeal(C1) vertebrae
or first/second coccygeal vertebrae
Checking for proper location of epidural ✔✔See if fluid that was in the hub
of the needle is drawn into the epidural space
